We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we say so — promptly, prominently, and on the same page as the original.
#Our policy
- Material factual errors are corrected within 24 hours of verification.
- The original error is preserved with strikethrough; the correction is appended with a timestamp.
- We do not silently rewrite history.
#Correction vs clarification vs retraction
- Correction: a factual error (date, name, number, fact). Visible badge added to article.
- Clarification: the facts were correct but readers might have been misled. Note appended; no visible badge.
- Retraction: a story was wrong in a fundamental way. Original is removed and replaced with a retraction notice.
#How to request a correction
Email the Reader's Editor (see /contact) with: (1) article URL, (2) the specific factual claim, (3) the evidence it is wrong. We respond within 48 hours.
#Public corrections log
Every correction is also published at /corrections with date + article + nature of correction.
